Nota d'usoLa locuzione imparare a memoria corrisponde all'inglese “to learn by heart”, non “by memory”: Ho imparato la poesia a memoria, I learnt the poem by heart (non I learnt the poem by memory). In alternativa, si può usare il verbo “to memorize”: Non sono bravo a mandare a memoria le date, I'm not good at memorizing dates.
